The world congress on transgender health takes place in Mexico City in November

The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) holds its 29th Scientific Symposium from 7 to 12 November 2026 in Mexico City. It is the reference international meeting in transgender health: clinicians, researchers, educators, policymakers and representatives of trans and gender diverse communities come together to review the evidence and the standards of care.

How it is organised

The programme is split into two blocks: the surgeon’s pre-conference on 7-9 November and the main symposium on 10-12 November, with plenaries, oral abstracts, posters and workshops. The symposium is held every two years and this edition focuses on evidence-based, person-centred care.

What will be discussed

The programme’s learning objectives include applying current evidence and guidelines to gender-affirming care, integrating best practice across medical, mental health and surgical fields, evaluating recent research, addressing equity and access to care, and covering ethical, legal and policy questions. There is also room for surgical protocols, mental health and psychosocial wellbeing, and for training and access to care in different countries.

Registration and key dates

Registration is open through WPATH’s platform, with tiered fees by date: early-bird, standard and late/onsite rate, the latter running from 18 September to 10 November. There are specific rates for trainees and for low income economy countries. Trans-led organisations can ask about special conditions by writing to conference@wpath.org.

Why it matters

WPATH is the association behind the standards of care cited in clinical guidelines and in debates about the regulation of trans health care. Its symposia are where changes in criteria are discussed before they reach health service protocols. This year it is also held in a Spanish-speaking country, which makes it easier to attend from Spain and Latin America.
